Reflection

I took Professor hammets comp class and did really well. I thought going into comp 2 it was going to be a breeze just like the prior semester. I soon found out I was completely wrong and had no clue what I was thinking. I struggled researching and finding correct information about my topic and completing the correct format of the paper. But this class has shown me I am able to complete college level papers.

I came into this class thinking it would be an easy thought. I knew what college papers were but the different format gave me problems to start. The difference between apa and mla was hard to understand when I first started but after looking into it I was able to get a hang of it. The biggest part was the citations and reference pages difference which I had a very hard time with. The in-text citations are very similar to each other but there is one key difference, which is the publication date. MLA in-text citations include the author’s name and page number whilst the APA in-text citations include both the author’s name, page number, and the publication year. However i learn quite a lot about the differences and i'm confident in my ability to continue to use both formats in the future.

For my first essay i chose farmer suicide which is topic that hit home personally knowing families affected by these tragic events. I felt like I knew quite a bit about the topic but after researching the topic I found this issue was a way bigger issue than I once thought. I found this topic very saddening for my father . I found myself at the verge of tears with some of the experiences I read. Near the end i looked into ways to combat this issue and sadly there isn't the amount of source i was hoping to see. Farmer suicide was a far untapped experiece many dont understand or even know about.

In the end, I've learned a lot. I feel as if I've become a much more confident writer. I feel i'm much more prepared to be at an actual college campus and am excited for the future. I also plan to spread awareness for farmer suicide and the lack of media attention on the subject.
